Why should you not travel to hills in Monsoon?

Love the mist of hills? Well, the mountains seem romantic during rains but the truth is that they are equally dangerous too. Your travel to hills plans could go haywire, if you are caught in the monsoon fury during rains. Let us understand that why it is dangerous to travel to hills during monsoon.

Danger of Landslides

You must have heard that a lot of landslides happened during monsoon this year in hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The strata of hills are so fragile that rocks keep rolling down the hills, every now and then. This year too, a lot of people died due to such incidents in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh in North India. Thus, when you plan a trip to mountains in monsoons, keep the weather in mind.

It is not advisable to travel to high and rugged mountains during rains and the immediate days post the rains. The soil strata become weak and there is immense danger of rocks rolling down when sunlight strikes after rains.

Wastage of Time

Suppose you have planned a three day trip to hill resorts in Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand during monsoons. All is going well and you are enjoying the pristine weather of hills. Things could change in a flash and you could end up being caught in a jam.

You would say that it is but normal to be in a jam. However, most of the jams in hills are caused due to landslides. Due to tough topography of the hills, it can take hours and even days for major landslides to clear up. Your major time could be caught up in the traffic jams and your vacations could end up being spoiled.

Lack of Outdoor activities

You come to mountains to enjoy nature. If travel to hills means enjoying a cup of coffee from the balcony of hotel, travel during monsoons can work but if you are a outdoor person, travel during monsoon could well be a silly mistake to perform.

During rains it would be a rare possibility that you could plan any outdoor activity. All your plans to explore and experience the magical essence of hills could be ruined, if you decide to venture into hills during monsoon.

Nightmare for Trekkers

Travel to hills during monsoon can be a nightmare for trekkers. It has been seen over the past few years that trekkers often get lost in mountains during monsoon months, if they venture deep into woods. It is always tough to explore hills during monsoons and if you are in a region that experiences heavy rains, trekking can prove to be a big mistake.

When to travel to hills

March to May and late September to November are the best seasons to explore mountains. Even if you are planning a two day break or a long haul vacation, travel to hills during these months could help your explore the mystical mountains at their best.

Happy travelling and happy exploration!
