Things to know before you plan a trip to Bhangarh Fort

Do you intend to plan a trip to Bhangarh Fort.? It will surprise you that the isolated patch in which Bhangarh is now located was once a flourishing town. Indeed, Bhangarh Fort is one of the most haunted places in India.

Despite this, a large number of people do visit Bhangarh Fort which is located in Alwar district of Rajastan on the edges of Sariska Tiger Reserve. Here are some key points that you must keep in mind before you plan a trip to Bhangarh Fort.

Historical Perspective of Bhangarh Fort

The Bhangarh Fort was built in the 17th century by Madho Singh who used to be among nine ratnas of Akbar.  At the peak of its glory, over 10,000 people used to live in the Bhangarh Fort area. The place where this fort stood was once home to a saint named Guru Balu Nath.

The saint told the king that the shadow of the fort should never fall on his home. However, the successor of Madho Rao ignored this fact and raised the walls of Bhangarh Fort. It was but natural that the curse affected the fort and the place was eventually ruined in one night as per the legends. There are some more stories about what led to the Bhangarh Fort turn into ruins but the truth is that today the place is isolated and is considered among most haunted places in India.

Warning signs greet you at the Fort

When you are on the trip to Bhangarh Fort, you will get to see a warning sign at the fort gate. It clearly points out that it is not allowed to remain in the fort premisesafter sunset. There have been some deaths in the past when people remained in the fort during night hours. Though Archeological Survey of India does not cite any reason for this notice, but it speaks a lot itself.

Foreigners are not allowed in Bhangarh Fort

People of foreign origin are not allowed to enter the Bhangarh Fort with utmost ease. They must obtain a permit before they visit the fort and its surroundings. Perhaps the concerns of their safety have made Government to come up with this order where the movement of foreigners is monitored in the fort.

The houses are roofless

Another important thing that you will notice during trip to Bhangarh Fort is that all the houses constructed here have no roofs. It is some sort of curse that whenever an effort has been made to build over these roofs, they have collapsed. This is also one of the reasons that Bhangarh Fort was never inhabited by people, once its original owners left the place overnight.

Freaky Accidents that scare people

It is not as if people have not tried to break this jinx. Once three friends ventured and remained in the fort after dark. One of the three persons fell in a well inside the fort despite the fact that they had torch. Somehow, his friends brought him to the hospital. However, it is said that later all three of them were killed in a road accident.

Stories like this have added to the wilderness and the fearful thoughts about Bhangarh Fort. However, the fort and its surroundings are a delight to the eyes. You should definitely plan a trip to Bhangarh Fort but during day hours only!
