Places to visit in Manali

The beauty is so mesmerizing that it will leave you spellbound. Welcome to Manali, a small tourist town in Himachal Pradesh, that can often give you a impression that you are in some remote location in Europe.

There are many places to visit in Manali and you can begin by exploring the Mall Road which houses numerous shops selling local artisan products and eateries where you will get dishes ranging from traditional cuisine to American and Continental dishes.

Solang Valley

The location has always been on the top slot among places to visit in Manali and with opening of Atal tunnel, this location has come apt on the tourist circuit as the tunnel route passes close by. Solang otherwise is popular as an adventure sport location and you can indulge in many adventure activities ranging from Gandola ride to Paragliding. There is also a small shiva temple here, the serene location of which makes it a must visit place.

Rohtang Pass

A visitor would by default pass through this pass located at 13,000 feet as it was the gateway to Lahaul valley. However, the tunnel now bypasses the Pass. Yet, a visit to Rohtang Pass should definitely be on your wish list as it gives you an opportunity to experience raw Indian Himalayas from close quarters. At Rohtang Pass, you are at top of a mountain peak and the experience is definitely worth exploring and living.

Old Manali

If you wish to explore the real charm of Manali beyond the Mall, a visit to Old Manali is highly recommended. On the way, you will come across numerous traditional houses which will definitely leave you spellbound due to their artistic creation.

Manu temple is another key attraction of Old Manali and the scenic view of Manali from the temple surrounding is something that is not possible to describe in words.

Hadimba Temple

Just 2 Km from the Mall Road is the Hadimba temple which is dedicated to Hadimba, the wife of Bhim, one of the Pandavas who finds mention in the scripture Mahabharata. The temple is popular due to its four tired-pagoda style design and you should ideally visit it during temple festival in the month of May.


10 km uphill from Manali lies Vashisth, a small village which is popular for its Vashisth temple and the hot water springs. A dip in these springs will definitely refresh you and prepare you for exploring the region. You can also trek around in the surrounding forests. However, it is always recommended to take a local person with you, else the chances of vanishing in the woods always remain high.

Jogini Waterfalls

Another location which has become popular over the years and should be definitely on your wish list among places to visit in Manali is the Jogini Falls. The refreshing feel of the place is so serene and calming that you could decide to live here forever. For a while, you would feel to leave the world besides you.

When to Visit

Manali is accessible all year round. If you are an adventure lover, winters are the best time to explore the region. Smmer months are however recommended in case you wish to trek around the place and explore rural life of Kullu district.
